Google Polishes its Chrome

http://gigaom.com/2012/05/29/google…book-chromebox/

“We often joke Google is like the old Microsoft — getting things wrong, bumbling its way into new markets, and getting things right on the third try. This seems to be quite true of Google’s efforts to develop a cloud PC. Google and its partner, Samsung, are launching a new Chromebook and Chromebox today, targeting them at the educational and corporate customers.”

Google likes Chrome. It created a browser named Chrome. It launched a netbook like device called the Chromebook. It looks like they are back, and in addition to updating its portable funtoy, you can say hello to the Chromebox. It does not roll off the tongue like iPad, or iPhone, but I suppose that is the name they are sticking with. I never heard of much success with the original Chromebook, but it appears that the new strategy they are taking, that is, targeting corporate and education markets, makes more sense. One of the biggest benefits of the whole Chrome ecosphere is asset management. A person’s profile is not really stored on the computer, but in the cloud. With the ChromeSomethingSomething, someone can switch between two different devices and largely get the same experience which is big karma for large organizations. I am sure that individuals can also get some ChromeLove, but the money is in big markets.

Samsung reveals Galaxy S III variants for Canada

Samsung has revealed two Galaxy S III variants for the Canadian market. What makes the two different from one another is purely radio baseband and internal memory related. The SGH-i747 comes with LTE support and comes with either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory. The other variant, the SGH-iT999 supports only DC-HSPA+ up to 42.2 Mb/s and comes only in the 16GB flavour.

Canadians will be able to purchase their Samsung Galaxy S III from the 20th of June

What makes these North American destined phones different from the international Galaxy S III is largely the chipset inside and amount of RAM. Where the international version has a Exynos 4412 chipset and 1 GB of RAM, the Canadian versions will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 chipset and step the memory count up to a full two gigabytes.

Other than these changes the Canadians variants will be identical in terms, camera, display and battery. The design of the handset itself will likely remain the same as the international Galaxy S III, as suggested on the carriers’ pre-order pages.

The Samsung Galaxy S III will be available on all major Canadian networks. Pre-orders have already begun at Rogers and Telus. The official Canadian launch will be on June 20, which also happens to be the rumoured date for a launch south of the border.

Lian-Li launched lovely looking low cost cases

Opinion gets split at Tecnobitson a number of things. GTX or Radeon. Core i3 or Fusion. Battlefield 3 or Black Ops. But the area that’s contested the hardest is chassis design. Everytime we argue about cases, Lian-Li is always one of the contenders for “Most desirable”. But, generally, they are costly. For Computex 2012, Lian-Li has decided to get down. Tecnobitsfollows to see what’s what.

Founded and run by people who want to spend all day trawling Taiwan’s beaches for driftwood, so they can create hand-crafted sculptures, gives you an idea of how they approach design.

Today, the company has announced a brand new ATX chassis, code named PC-A55 – as well as a new micro ATX chassis that its calling the PC-V355. Let’s break down the features, advantages and benefits:-

PC-A55
Available sub-£99 in either black or silver. It uses a front mounted PSU which, according to Lian-Li, means the case can be smaller than traditional designs without limiting the size of graphics card you can use (up to 310mm is cool, so they say)

PC-V355
This micro ATX case will also be under £99, but here the focus has been placed on airflow and noise. Grommets abound and this affordable case includes a slide-out motherboard tray for maximum build flexibility. HD audio and a pair of USB 3 connectors are available on the front, while the optical drive bay is side mounted. Despite its size, this case can also accommodate the full 310mm that it’s larger cousin can

Lian-Li has been at this for more than 20 years so, as you might expect, both cases come with a 2 year warranty.

Intel Everywhere and Everything

Newly formed mobile operator Everything Everywhere (the combined companies Orange and Vodafone) have today announced the launch of their new phone – called the “San Diego”.

What makes this one different is that it’s the first mobile smart phone to be launched in Europe that will be powered by an Intel chip.

The new phone will be powered by the Intel Atom Z2460 single-core processor and will use the Google Android OS. The new phone will go on sale from 6th June in the UK followed by France shortly after.

The handset supports HD video playback on a 4-inch 1024×600 pixel capacitive display and 1080p recording on its 8-megapixel camera, which also includes an LED flash and a 10-shot burst capture.

In hand with the launch will be a co-funded multi-million pound advertising campaign. The phone is expected to sell on PAYG for around £200
