Loewe deny Apple $113 million takeover deal
Loewe have denied rumours that they were selling to Apple for $113 million. The German TV maker issued a statement saying the report has ‘absolutely nothing to do with it’.
AppleInsider released information at the weekend which suggested that Apple were in talks to acquire the company. Loewe then contacted German website Heise to respond to the report. They said that the deal had reportedly yet to be agreed.
The German company were said to “have been advised by its financial advisor to accept the offer and a final decision is scheduled to be announced internally before 18 May 2012.” according to the Appleinsider news. Sharp are one of the major shareholders in Loewe, and they are meant to be supplying panels for the upcoming Apple television set.
The report would add strength to the news that Apple will be releasing new high definition television sets in the next year. In other news today Foxconn chief has split the beans that they will be producing the new Apple television.
Apple retracts 4G branding from new iPad, is now Celluar
Apple appear to have found a quick marketing fix for the 4G branding of the new iPad. The LTE enabled tablet encountered much criticism outside of the USA where the 4G part of the celluar radio just wouldn’t work. As a result it is now known as the ‘Wi-Fi + Celluar’ iPad rather than the ‘Wi-Fi + 4G’ iPad.
Apple has rebranded the '4G' tablet to the 'Wi-Fi + Celluar' iPad
This change has come into effect on the online stores in US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and presumably many other regions. Authorities in the United Kingdom, Sweden and Australia were among others that threatened Apple with misleading advertising investigations. Due to social pressure Apple even offered refunds to unhappy customers in Australia.
Apple makes it clear in the online store that it “can roam worldwide on fast mobile data networks, including HSPA, HSPA+, and DC-HSDPA.” Interestingly there is no mention of the 4G LTE connectivity at all in the online stores outside of the USA; until you get to the fine print.
Foxconn ready to build Apple TV
Manufacturing giant Foxconn are preparing to build the new Apple Television. According to China Daily company chief Terry Gou said that they are preparing to build the new Apple Television.
Gou held a news conference in Shanghai regarding their plans for the future. During the chat he let it slip that Foxconn are ready to start producing the Apple television which Steve Jobs mentioned before his death. China Daily added that “development or manufacturing has yet to begin”.
Gou would have insider knowledge of the development of such a critical product for Apple, but it is surprising that he would mention it in a conference as Apple are normally very strict about details of unreleased products. Apple have yet to even acknowledge the television.
Rumours have been circulating now for months that the upcoming high definition television will feature a camera for FaceTime and even have support for SIRI, the Apple assistant. Latest rumours would suggest that the set will have access to the Apple Store. Perhaps indicating internal storage.
Jobs spoke to Walter Isaacson in his biography saying “I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use. It would be seamlessly synched with all of your devices and with iCloud. It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.”
Tecnobitssays: There are no indications when production will start, although some sources claim it will be 2013.
Siri reckons the Nokia Lumia 900 is the best smartphone ever
Ever since Apple revealed the iPhone 4S late last year, the Siri personal companion service was, and still is arguably the flagship feature of the slightly tweaked iPhone 4. While many people use Siri for mundane things such as “where is the nearest cafe?” or “Siri, do you love me?” someone has decided to ask Siri what the best smartphone ever is. The answer? Nokia’s Lumia 900 4G.
The thing is, while Siri would love to say that the iPhone is the greatest smartphone ever, Siri uses Wolfram Alpha, a knowledge database that is used when Siri doesn’t know the answer herself. Plus it is not under the jurisdiction of Apple, meaning it is free to say whatever it feels like.
In the above screenshot the Lumia 900 is deemed the best smartphone ever by customer review average, and wait for it, is based off just five reviews or ratings. This didn’t stop the Windows Phone social media team lapping it up, European carriers would agree with Siri either.

Official Samsung Galaxy S III accessories unveiled
Reporting on a phone’s official accessories is not some we would typically do, but Samsung has offered up some interesting accessories for the Galaxy S III flagship that was there are many accessories that should be available around the European launch later this month or in early June.
Starting off with the C Pen, which is essentially a fatter version of the capacitive stylus found in Samsung’s own Galaxy Note. It should be much better to use as well, taking on the look of a Parker pen more than anything, plus the ink will never run out.
Next up is the flip cover and while at first it may seem rather pointless, it actually replaces the Galaxy S III’s back cover entirely. Meaning it doesn’t add any major bulk to the 8.6mm thickness while protecting the 4.8 inch Super AMOLED display.
The stand pictured above fixates the phone in an upright position but doesn’t actually do much more than that. To add some value to it though, the stand opens up to restore a battery’s charge. If it had a proper dock it would be high up on my shopping list; and this is something Apple has actually come to realise.
Finally, there is the Wi-Fi Display Hub which on the surface seems to act much like HTC’s Media Link HD. It basically projects content from your phone to the monitor without the need for a 5m long HDMI or MHL cable.
